Family-owned business, Gordon & MacPhail, is preparing to open the doors to a new retail shop and whisky tasting rooms at The Courtyard on Newmill Road, Elgin on the site of Johnstons of Elgin.

The store will officially open to customers on Saturday 1 March, offering a new, modern and interactive whisky experience for visitors.

Working alongside local contractors, including Forteath & Sinclair, Campbell McHardy, Hendersons Decorators, local Architects LDN, and support from POD design, Gordon & MacPhail at The Courtyard on Newmill Road has been thoughtfully designed to showcase Gordon & MacPhail’s incredible selection of whiskies including some of the rarest in the world.

As well as its world-renowned Gordon & MacPhail whiskies, award-winning Benromach Single Malts and Red Door Gin, the store will stock the company’s CRN57° Blended Malt whisky range.

CRN57° is a range of Blended Scotch whiskies created by Gordon & MacPhail’s master blenders to provide whisky lovers with the opportunity to ‘taste the future today’, and discover notes, flavours and aromas they will eventually experience in the first expressions released from Gordon & MacPhail’s The Cairn Distillery in years to come.

Gordon & MacPhail at The Courtyard will also offer an exceptional selection of other Scotch Whiskies, Scottish gins, vodkas and rums as well as top quality still, sparkling and fortified wines, and international spirits from the finest producers around the world that the South Street emporium and St Giles venues were famous for.

Phillip White, Chief Executive of Gordon & MacPhail, said: “This is a new offering that we are exceptionally proud of. Our investment here reflects our long-term commitment to Elgin – the place of our company’s beginnings over a century ago.

“The recent closure of St Giles shopping centre was unexpected but presented an opportunity to evaluate our options as to how best we can serve our customers and community. The Courtyard at Johnstons of Elgin at Newmill offers visitors a premium retail experience with plenty of space and a lovely café just next door, making it the ideal space for our temporary Whisky Experience and retail offering while our South Street premises continue to undergo renovation.”

Chris Gaffney, CEO of Johnstons of Elgin, said: “Johnstons are delighted to welcome Gordon & MacPhail to Newmill. It’s a great match of two family companies that have a worldwide customer base and iconic products made in Moray. I’m sure it will give guests from near and far even more of a reason to visit us.”

Gordon & MacPhail Newmill Road will open to visitors from 10am on Saturday 1 March 2025. For more information, please visit:www.gordonandmacphail.com/book-a-tasting
