Dailuaine
Dailuaine is one of those distilleries whose pronunciation catches people out – ‘dal-u-ayn’ if you were wondering. The distillery, built in 1851, has an interesting and intriguing history. Founded a mile off the main Aberlour to Grantown road, the Dailuaine Distillery grew in size with the proximity of the local railway. It was the first distillery to install and use Doig’s innovative malting chimney and pagoda purposely aiming to produce a lightly peated malt – a style that is now considered the classic Speyside. In 1917 the Dailuaine Distillery was closed, devastated by fire it was only reopened after a complete rebuild three years later.
Today’s Dailuaine produces a bold, meaty, and robust spirit well suited for long term maturation.
